1943, a pivotal point in the history of the Pure Paso Fino
Breed…
March 2009 marked the 66th anniversary of the Puerto Rico
Paso Fino Federation, the oldest Paso Fino organization and
registry for the Pure Puerto Rican Paso Fino. The organization
was established in San Juan, Puerto Rico on March 21, 1943
originally as the Asociacion de Duenos de Caballos de Silla
de Puerto Rico.
The first Board of Directors was composed of
Mr,
Hector
Cestero Molina, President, Mr. Lorenzo Colon Padilla, Vice
President, Dr. Carlos Gaztambide Arrillaga, Secretary, Mr.
Gonzalo Cordova Davila, Treasurer, along 15 other distinguished
gentlemen.
The association was founded on the following commitments: (1) To
promote the breeding, riding and improvement of the Pure Paso
Fino horse. (2) To organize and conduct exhibitions and shows,
as well as equestrian events for young riders to further the
promotion of the Pure Paso Fino. (3) To establish a
genealogical registry (officially established in 1943) for the
Pure Paso Fino breed and to issue certificates to owners.
In 1952, Governor Luis Munoz Marin issued a proclamation
declaring the Paso Fino sport as the National Sport of Puerto
Rico. In May 1965, the name of the founding organization was
changed to Federacion del Deporte de Caballos de Paso Fino
de Puerto Rico, as it remains today.
