Paso Fino Alliance of the University of Puerto Rico at Utuado (UPRU)

As part of its efforts in Conservation (see College Mission statement), the UPRU administration in collaboration with its faculty of Livestock Technology has formed a Paso Fino Alliance with the Puerto Rico Department of Agriculture, and the Puerto Rican Paso Fino Associations to preserve and promote the Puerto Rican Paso Fino breed of horses. The Paso Fino Associations of Puerto Rico are composed primarily of owners and breeders of Paso Fino horses. The Paso Fino Associations which have joined in the Alliance are: 

• Insular Association of Paso Fino Owners and Breeders

• Puerto Rican Paso Fino Federation

• National Association of Paso Fino Horses 

Objectives of the Paso Fino Alliance of the University of Puerto Rico at Utuado: 

1. Preserve, develop and make available knowledge and techniques regarding the   native breed of the Puerto Rican Paso Fino horse. 

2. Establish ties of collaboration with the Paso Fino Associations, the Puerto Rican Department of Agriculture and others interested in the Puerto Rican Paso Fino horse, in order to develop common initiatives in supporting and strengthening the equine industry in Puerto Rico. 

3. Increase the academic offerings of the UPR at Utuado to include topics, courses and/or programs related with equines, especially the native Paso Fino breed. 

4. Initiate and cooperate in research projects related to the Paso Fino horse in order to stimulate the Paso Fino horse industry. Create a collection of bibliographic, audiovisual and digital materials that document the history and development of the Puerto Rican Paso Fino horse. 

5. Promote the construction of physical facilities on the UPRU campus that create a multi-purpose space adequate for horse shows/com-petitions, education, and research on the Paso Fino horse, and for small equine business development.

 

Objetivos de la Alianza Paso Fino de la Universidad de Puerto Rico en Utuado

1. Compromiso con la investigación, preservación y difusión de conocimientos y técnicas sobre la raza autóctona de Caballo de Paso Fino de Puerto Rico.

2. Establecer unos lazos de colaboración, con las asociaciones, el Departamento de Agricultura y personas interesadas en el caballo puertorriqueño de paso fino, para el desarrollo de iniciativas comunes.

3. Ampliar los ofrecimientos académicos de la UPR en Utuado para incluir temas, cursos y/o programas relacionados con el caballo de paso fino.

4. Iniciar y cooperar en investigaciones relacionados con el caballo de paso fino. Crear una colección de recursos bibliográficos, audiovisuales y digitales en la Biblioteca de UPR en Utuado que documente la historia y el desarrollo del Caballo Puertorriqueño de Paso Fino.

5. Propiciar y promover la construcción de instalaciones físicas para crear un espacio multiuso en el recinto adecuado para competencias equinas, educación y investigación sobre el caballo de paso fino.
