The Dulce Sueño
Fair is a cultural celebration in which our equine first citizen
"The Paso Fino Breed" is the principal figure. A three-day event
in the southern town of Guayama, the Fair offers Paso Fino
competitions, caballos de pueblo (town horses or criollo horses)
events which are non-registered horses demonstrating their
pleasure riding gaits (paso corto, paso largo, sobre paso,
etc.), handcrafts by Puertorican artisans, paintings by local
artists, typical foods, local beverages, dance groups, music and
varied folkloric entertainment.
Guayama is the birth place of the "Great Dulce Sueño"
and in the town's plaza (square) the old house of Dulce Sueno's
owner, Don Genaro Cautino Insua, is now a museum open to the
public. Guayama comes alive with the Dulce Sueño
Fair weekend with lots of entertainment and camaraderie in a
unique "horsey" atmosphere.

The Dulce Sueño
Fair is the most prestigious Paso Fino Horse Show in Puerto Rico
attracting people from all over the island regardless of horse
breed preference. It is a real happening. It is the place to be
during that weekend.
Historically, The Dulce Sueño
Fair has been attended by friends from the neighbor Caribbean
islands, Canada, U.S.A., Colombia, other Central and South
American countries, and even as far as from Germany with a group
coming down to film a Caribbean documentary for airing in
Europe. The Dulce Sueño
Fair attracts over 10,000 people of all age groups during its
three days of activities and is sponsored by the Guayama
Municipal Government, the Institute of Puertorican Culture,
Department of Agriculture, all Pure Puertorican Paso Fino
Entities and private companies.
